Elephant Beach Havelock Activities Guide

How to get there, what activities are available, prices, timings, and tips for visiting.

Why Elephant Beach is the activity hub of Havelock

Elephant Beach on Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) is where most water sports happen. The beach has a strip of operator stalls offering everything from snorkeling to jet ski to banana boat rides. If you want to try multiple water activities in one place, this is where you go.

How to reach Elephant Beach

By boat: the most common way. A return boat transfer from Havelock Jetty costs about Rs 300 to 500 per person and takes 20 to 30 minutes. Boats leave throughout the morning.

By trek: there is a jungle trek from Beach No. 3 to Elephant Beach that takes about 45 minutes. It is free but can be muddy and is not recommended during or after rain.

Activities at Elephant Beach

Snorkeling: Rs 2,500 to 4,000 per person. About 45 minutes in the water with gear included. The reef here has decent coral and fish life close to shore.

Glass bottom boat: Rs 1,500 to 3,000. A 15 to 30 minute ride in a boat with a transparent bottom. Good for non-swimmers who want to see the reef.

Sea walk: Rs 3,500 to 3,800. 15 to 20 minutes walking on the sea floor with a helmet. Read our sea walk guide for details.

Jet ski: Rs 1,000 to 1,500. A 10 to 15 minute ride. Popular and usually the first to sell out in peak season.

Banana boat ride: Rs 800 to 1,200. A 10 to 15 minute group ride on an inflatable banana-shaped raft pulled by a speedboat.

Parasailing: Available at Elephant Beach. Price on request depending on season and operator.

Sofa / bumper ride: Rs 800 to 1,200. A fun group activity where you sit on an inflatable and get towed at speed.

Timings and duration

Boats to Elephant Beach start around 8:00 AM and the last return boat is typically around 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Plan to spend 2 to 4 hours at the beach depending on how many activities you want to try. Most people go in the morning when the water is calmest.

Best time to visit

October to May is the best season. The water is clear and the weather is good. June to September is monsoon season and Elephant Beach activities may be suspended due to rough seas. Even within the good season, try to go on a clear, calm day for the best snorkeling visibility.

Tips for your visit

Carry cash. Most operator stalls at Elephant Beach do not accept digital payments. Bring a waterproof bag for your phone and valuables. Wear a rash guard or t-shirt if you have one for sun protection while snorkeling. Carry drinking water as there are limited facilities on the beach.
